I’ve been postponed to write a post about Wikileaks and all that is happening to the right of freedom of speech. But now I think it’s time to dump my opinions about it.
First of all, I’d like to say what side I am on. I’m supporting Wikileaks and Julian Assange because I know who is in the other side: the U.S. government. Please, keep in mind that I am not talking about the american people, I’m talking about the system within which they live and the people who govern them.
Since the 40′s, the United States of America has attempted to overthrow more than 50 foreign governments, most of which had been democratically-elected. These “puppet” democracies founded by the U.S. are countries like El Salvador, Guatemala, Peru, Colombia, Nicaragua, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Haiti and Jamaica. And here I’m only talking about Latin America countries.
And not only that, the USA tried to overthrow China, Albania, East Germany, Iran, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Syria, Egypt, Indonesia, British Guiana, Iraq, North Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Ecuador, Congo, France, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Bolivia, Ghana, Chile, Greece, Australia, Angola, Zaire, Portugal, Jamaica, Seychelles, Chad, Grenada, South Yemen, Suriname, Fiji, Libya, Nicaragua, Panama, Bulgaria, Albania, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yugoslavia, Ecuador, Venezuela and many other countries.
Type these countries names on Google and find out about these facts.
As usual, they are charging Assange with rape. I think it’s an insult to our intelligence; It kind of makes me wonder how many times this happened in history. Who knows? =D
So, I am supporting the truth, I am supporting WikiLeaks!
I created a Twitter account to share what I’ve read about WikiLeaks. Follow @WikiRebels to stay informed.
Last weekend, I attended TchêLinux Rio Grande — the first Free Software event in Rio Grande — and it was amazing!
Tchelinux is a Free Software user group of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and is one of the largest groups in Brazil.
My talk was about the GNOME Translation project and about the GNOME Brazilian community. It was great! There were a lot of fellows interested to know how to contribute to GNOME.
The event entrance fee was 2 kg of non-perishable food to help the needy. We’re proud because we gathered 125kg of food, which was donated to Orfanato Lar da Criança.
I’d like to thank FURG for hosting this event, the sponsors: Vetorial.net, Zetaflops, ElefanTI e DC Soluções, and the Tchelinux crew for the great talks. Thank you all!
Don’t forget to become a friend of GNOME!
*I will update this post with the pictures from the event once I get them. =]
